One day as I was driving and listening to a sermon about prayer, the teacher briefly mentioned how God created just 3 people Himself: Adam (Genesis 2:7), Eve (Genesis 2:22), and Jesus (Matthew 1:18). Hearing the teacher say this really hit me because I had never thought about this before. I paused the teaching and began to ponder the reality of this. The first thing I began to wonder and ask the Lord about was who the last Eve was. We know that Jesus is the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45), conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a woman, but I never thought about who the last Eve was.
As my mind began to go a million different places, the Holy Spirit ever so gently said to me "It's you." I said, "What do you mean?!". He said, "You are the bride of Christ".
Those who are in Christ, His church, are the bride - the last Eve.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. - Ephesians 5:25-27 NKJV
For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. - 2 Corinthians 11:2 NKJV
Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” -Revelation 19:7-9 NKJV
The Lord then brought me into a vision of when Jesus was pierced in His rib by the soldier, just after His death and then back to Adam where the Lord put him to sleep to create Eve from his rib.
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. - John 19:34 NKJV
Blood and water - the fluids present when giving birth - poured from His side. Just like the first Eve who was taken from the first Adams rib, we are also taken from the rib of Jesus.
Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. - Genesis 2:22 NKJV
Just like Adam was put into a deep sleep before the Lord created Eve from his rib, Jesus also was "asleep".
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place. - Genesis 2:21 NKJV
But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. - John 19:33 NKJV
This truly blew my mind and brought many things full circle because I finally understood why we are called the bride of Christ. Jesus went to the cross knowing that through His death we would be given life in Him. He was the ultimate perfect sacrifice, without which we would all be condemned and still under the curse of Adam. We can be saved, redeemed, set free, and born of the Spirit only because of His sacrifice and blood that poured out that day.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. - 1 Corinthians 15:22 NKJV
Be encouraged today that our Savior willingly endured the cross for the joy set before Him. The joy of reconciling us back to the Father.
